Announcement of Professorship – The Georg-August-University Göttingen
For the Centre of Modern Indian Studies, the University, with funding from the state of Lower Saxony (Land Niedersachsen), is setting up five new professorships to ensure the creation of an excellent and internationally visible centre for area studies.
- A professorship in Society and Culture of Modern India (W3) with a regional focus on India and thematic expertise in social structure, ethnic religious diversity, and legal pluralism;
- A professorship in Indian Economic Development (W3), with a research focus on development economics issues in India and particular competence in inequality or poverty issues, political economy, or India-specific financial topics;
- A professorship in Modern Indian History (W3), preferably with a historical focus on modern Indian economic and social history, and a strong competency in Indian languages;
- A professorship in Indian Religions (W2), with particular competencies in modern Hinduism, Islam, and/or other religions prevalent in India;
- A professorship in Indian State and Democracy (W3) with a particular focus on Indian politics, Indian constitutional theory, Indian law, or comparative legal studies
LSE Fellow in Global Politics

You will contribute to the teaching of Global Politics in the Department of Government at the LSE, specifically on the core course, From Empire to Globalisation.
You should have experience and a specific interest in global politics. You should also ideally have a completed PhD, as well as relevant publications. Previous teaching experience is essential.

University of Western Sidney RESEARCH LECTURESHIPS
UWS wishes to appoint outstanding early career researchers to UWS Research Lectureships. Applicants must have completed a research doctorate within the last five years.
The UWS Research Lectureships are three year contract positions with provision for conversion to on-going normal teaching and research position at the end of three years, subject to evidence of strong research and teaching performance. UWS Research Lectureships will enable early career researchers to concentrate on the development of their research potential. Appointees will be expected to teach only one-third of a normal teaching load during the three year contract and will be provided with research support and support to develop teaching skills and materials.

Intern opportunities at United Sikhs – UN-affiliated NGO
UNITED SIKHS is a international UN-affiliated NGO undertaking advocacy projects to protect and promote civil and human rights for minorities and underprivileged communities in the USA and globally. Our interns are involved in furthering that goal. We are currently looking for interns in each of the following four areas:
Legal Advocacy: Interns will have an opportunity to work with attorneys on a range of significant issues and projects. Although we cannot predict what our needs would be for each term, the duties of an intern will involve hands on work with legal cases, and legal research regarding discrimination, racial profiling, hate crimes, prisoners’ rights, indigent defense, education, free speech and national security.
Media Advocacy: Interns will also be involved with drafting press releases and articles; training for public speaking and interviews; media relations and on occasion, inquiries from the public. Film and design work is also available.
Community Organizing: While UNITED SIKHS advocacy profile includes cases on discrimination and other forms of human rights violations against minorities and underprivileged communities. UNITED SIKHS engages in community organizing around advocacy issues and preventative outreach work for the Sikh Community, hence, interns will have an opportunity to develop and participate in community organizing and awareness programs.
United Nations Coordination: Interns will attend various conferences and meetings at the United Nations, and will have a chance to learn systems at the United Nations. Interns will also be involved with the organization of UNITED SIKHS events at the UN.

Seven Postdoctoral Fellowships In The Humanities, University of Oxford
The University of Oxford Humanities Division is delighted to announce $1.8 million in funding from the Andrew W Mellon Foundation for postdoctoral fellowships. Six fixed-term research and teaching appointments in the selected broad research areas are available from 1 October 2009 for two years, and one post for one year. A further five posts will be available from October 2011 in other research areas and will be advertised closer to the time.
Although the major part of the fellowship will be devoted to research, the aim is also to equip the fellows in all aspects of an academic career, and the fellowship will also involve a limited amount of teaching and some administrative duties. An academic mentor will be assigned to each fellow, and support for further development in academic practice, learning and teaching will be available through the Oxford Learning Institute and the Division’s Teaching Development Coordinator. The fellowship will have a college association, and a £4000 p.a. research allowance will be available for the two-year posts.
How to apply:
Applicants must have completed their doctorates and be starting out on preparing a second research theme as well as showing the potential for future academic leadership. Each area will be interpreted broadly and applicants with ‘interdisciplinary’ research agendas will not be disadvantaged; selection committees will be looking primarily for academic excellence.

This is a unique opportunity to become one of our most influential voices in your field. You’ll immerse yourself in the full range of issues affecting UK policy in your specialist subject area. Based on your deep knowledge, you’ll provide critical insight, analysis and advice to policy-making departments.
By developing close working relationships with FCO and Government policy makers, you’ll be able to directly impact UK policy. You’ll also forge close contacts with external academic bodies and think tanks. Overseeing an effective archive will be an essential part of your remit.
