Visiting Senior Research Fellowship 2010-2011

The President and Fellows of St. John’s College invite applications for a Visiting Senior Research Fellowship for the academic year 2010-11, or part thereof.  The Fellowship is intended to offer an experienced academic (normally with considerable postdoctoral experience) of outstanding distinction, from abroad or from the United Kingdom, an opportunity to pursue his or her own study or research as a member of the College.

Participation in the activities of the College’s Research Centre by the Fellow would be welcomed.  The Research Centre was established to provide focus and support for the College’s intellectual and academic life, to support new research, and to enhance the College’s role in promoting first-class innovative research in the University of Oxford and the academic community at large.

The Fellow will be expected to reside in Oxford during term.  Accommodation (free of charge) for a married or unmarried Fellow will be provided in the vicinity of the College.  The Fellow will have the right to lunch and dine in College, also free of charge.  There is no stipend attached to the Fellowship and no facilities or domestic help can be offered to spouses, partners or family members (beyond sharing the above accommodation).

There is no application form for these Fellowships.  Applications, in the form of a letter, should include a full curriculum vitae, the names of three referees and a statement of the research or other work proposed during the Fellowship.  Applications should be received by the Academic Administrator, St. John’s College, Oxford OX1 3JP, not later than noon on Monday 9th March 2009.

Research Associate to support the AHRC/ESRC Religion and Society Programme

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to support the £12.3m AHRC/ESRC Religion and Society Programme, and to work closely with its Director, Professor Linda Woodhead. The post is until December 2012. The post will be based at Lancaster University.

The RA will have a PhD completed or near completion (or be of postdoctoral standing), with research experience in some aspect of religion and society. The role will involve monitoring findings from the 70-80 research projects in the Programme, working with the Director to identify cross-cutting themes, presenting these in written form, assisting researchers on the Programme to communicate their results effectively, writing for publication, editing for publication. Applicants should have the requisite intellectual skills, effective written communication skills, a high level of personal organisation and administrative efficiency, good inter-personal skills, and an ability to prioritise and take initiatives.

CCIS will offer a limited number of Visiting Research Fellowships at both the predoctoral and postdoctoral levels for the 2009-10 academic year. These awards are to support advanced research and writing on any aspect of international migration and refugee flows, in any of the social sciences, history, law, and comparative literature. Due to funding constraints, CCIS is able to award fellowships only to scholars who have a current or former affiliation with a University of California campus (as a graduate student, faculty member, or researcher). Self-funded Guest Scholars are not required to have a UC affiliation. Fellowships must be held in residence at UCSD (commuting from outside of San Diego is not permissible).

POSITION AS POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (SKO/post code 1352) IN SOUTH ASIAN OR EAST ASIAN STUDIES

The successful candidates should in her/his research project work on a topic related to culture, history, religion, language and/or society in South Asia or East Asia. The necessary language competence to carry out the project must be documented. The applicant’s post-doctoral research project should preferably be related to one of the ongoing research projects at the department.

The fellowship is for 4 years, out of which 25% is spent on duties for the department. These duties may include teaching and administrative work and will include acquiring formal basic university pedagogical competence.

Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in a relevant field.  The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.  

Applicants must submit a project description, including a schedule of activities. It is to be assumed that the project will be completed within the 4-year period.

The appointee will be expected to engage with existing research groups in the Faculty of Humanities and to contribute to the further development of the scholarly community.

We are looking for strongly motivated and competent candidates, with high academic qualifications in the relevant area of research.

Short listed applicants may be invited for an interview at the University of Oslo.

The Sarbjit Singh Aurora Endowed Chair in Sikh and Punjabi Studies, University of California, Santa Cruz

The Humanities Division of the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for the newly created Sarbjit Singh Aurora Endowed Chair in Sikh and Punjabi Studies. The endowed chair will be held by a distinguished member of the humanities faculty and will support research and teaching about the Sikh community from a multicultural and global perspective, including gender, diaspora, literary, historical, and cultural studies. Candidates may work in any field in the humanities and will be appointed at any rank from advanced assistant to full professor. This position carries a five-course equivalency workload, which normally means teaching four courses over three quarters and carrying out other academic and service responsibilities. The holder of the Sarbjit Singh Aurora Endowed Chair also will work with the relevant department and the Humanities Division to administer the endowment funds.

Rank: Advanced Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenured) or Full Professor (tenured)

Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in humanities discipline, demonstrated excellence in research productivity and in teaching, and, at the most senior level, a record of administrative experience.

Position available: July 1, 2009
